Turkey Banana Burgers
Turkey Banana Burgers
(Makes 4 servings for a 50 pound dog)
My favorite ingredient in this recipe is the mashed bananas, a food my dogs simply love! Bananas are loaded with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. They help with both constipation and diarrhea, much like pumpkin does. But unlike canned pumpkin, bananas can be found year round! Bananas also have a prebiotic affect by stimulating the growth of friendly bacteria in the intestines. I always encourage my clients to promote health & wellness in their dog through a homemade diet. My additional tip: Want to keep Fido busy for a while? Stuff a Kong Toy with some peanut butter & banana.
- 4 medium red potatoes, diced
- 1 cup chopped zucchini
- 2 large eggs
- 2 pounds ground turkey
- ½ cup mashed banana
Preheat the oven to 375°F.
Spray a large baking dish with nonstick cooking spray and set them aside.
In a medium pot, cover the potatoes with water and bring them to a boil. Cook until they are soft when pierced with the tip of a knife, about 20 minutes. Drain them and mash well in the pot. You should have about 2 1/2 cups mashed potato.
Puree the zucchini in a food processor. You should have about ½ cup of puree.
In a large bowl, whisk the eggs. Add the turkey, zucchini, banana, and mashed potatoes. Using your hands, mix all the ingredients well.
Make burgers that are approximately 3 inches in diameter (about 6 ounces each) and place them in the prepared baking dish, cover with foil. Bake them for 30 to 40 minutes. Let the burgers cool completely before serving them. Cover and refrigerate any leftovers for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
